Simple ways to improve the Security of Your Garden
Sheds
Unfortunately, it is a sign of the times that burglaries from garden sheds are increasing all the time. Many of us
use the humble garden shed to store lawnmowers, golf trollys, bikes and expensive outdoor toys. To replace many of
these items would be very expensive, yet, we often forget to think about making our garden shed more secure.
Now is the time to get proactive and make it more difficult for burglars to get their
hands on your stuff with these simple, cheap Garden Shed security tips.
Remove temptation by making it difficult for them to see what you
have stored in the shed. Many shed burglaries occur because the burglar is
lurking around and looking through windows to see if there are any valuables they can easily steal and sell in to
make extra cash. If you prevent the burglar form seeing the contents of your shed, they are less likely to waste
time breaking into a shed that might not have anything valuable in it anyway. Simply use some pale coloured
material or white plastic to cover the windows. This will still let plenty of light in for you to see what you
need, especially with the door open, but will stop prying eyes from checking out your possessions.
Make sure the door is secure
Invest in a decent lock for the shed, one that cannot be forced in a moment. Always keep the key safe where it
cannot be found by anyone poking around. Check that the hinges and screws holding the door in place are
secure, so the door cannot be forced.
Put something noisy on the door
This may sound silly, but burglars want to get in and out with your stuff as fast as possible, without
disturbing the household. That way they can move onto the next property, and you often hear of a group of houses
all being targetted at the same time. So go ahead - use wind chimes, bells, even strings of cans across the door
which will make a noise if anyone disturbs them.
Get a motion detector security light
You don't have to worry about wiring and electricity. You can invest in a simple motion detector light, screwed to
the shed, which is powered by solar light. Not all solar powered lights are strong, however, they will still
act as a deterrent, as the burglar won't know how light a sleeper you are. Just in case you are on the phone to the
police, they are not going to want to hang around, and hopefully move onto another, easier target.
Simple effective tips to inprove the security of your garden sheds. Don't
wait until it is too late!
